Color temperature is a way of measuring temperature that is commonly used in physics and astronomy. This concept is based on an imaginary black object that, when heated to different degrees, releases multiple colors of light and its objects appear in varied colors. When an iron block is heated, it turns red, then yellow, and finally white, just like when it is heated.
It is pointless to talk about the color temperature of green or purple light. In practice, color temperature is only relevant for light sources that closely resemble the radiation of a black body, i.e., light in a range going from red to orange to yellow to white to blueish white.
Color temperature is conventionally expressed in kelvins, using the symbol K, a unit of measure for absolute temperature.
The effect of color temperature
Different color temperatures have different effects on the creation of atmosphere and emotions.
When the color temperature is less than 3300K, the light is mainly red, giving people a warm and relaxing feeling.
When the color temperature is between 3300 and 6000K, the content of red, green, and blue light accounts for a certain proportion, providing people with a sense of nature, comfort, and stability.
When the color temperature is above 6000K, blue light accounts for a large proportion, which makes people feel serious, cold, and deep in this environment.
Furthermore, when the color temperature difference in a space is too large and the contrast is too strong, it is easy for people to adjust their pupils frequently, resulting in visual organ seal fatigue and mental fatigue.
Different environments require different color temperature.
Warm white light refers to light with a color temperature of 2700K-3200K.
Daylight refers to lights with a color temperature of 4000K-4600K.
Cool white light refers to light with a color temperature of 4600K-6000K.
1.Living room
Meeting guests is the most important function of the living room, and the color temperature should be controlled at about 4000~5000K (neutral white). It can make the living room appear bright and create a quiet and elegant environment.
2.Bedroom
The lighting in the bedroom should be warm and private to achieve emotional relaxation before going to bed, so the color temperature should be controlled at 2700~3000K (warm white).
3.Dining room
Dining room is an important area in the home, and a comfortable experience is very important. It is best to choose 3000~4000K in terms of color temperature, because from the psychological point of view, eating under warm lighting is more appetizing. It will not distort the food and will create a welcoming dining environment.
4.Study room
Study room is a place for reading, writing, or working. It needs a sense of tranquility and calmness, so that people will not be impetuous. It is recommended to control the color temperature around 4000~5500K.
5.Kitchen
Kitchen lighting should take into account the ability of recognition, and the kitchen lighting should be used to maintain the original colors of vegetables, fruits, and meat. The color temperature should be between 5500~6500K.
6.Bathroom
The bathroom is a place with a particularly high usage rate. At the same time, because of its special functionality, the light should not be too dim or too distorted, so that we can observe our physical condition. The recommended light color temperature is 4000-4500K.
